About opentree press
Why we built this.
We wanted a family tree we could actually keep, and a print of it we would be proud to frame. We could not find both in one place, so we made opentree press. Four reasons it exists.
The short version
Full access to your data, prints worth hanging, images that survive enlargement, and the geography behind the names.- 01
Your family record should be yours to take.
No single ancestry app gives you convenient, complete access to what you put into it—every person, every photograph, every document. OpenTree Press does. You can download a full portable archive whenever you want, and you do not have to stay a paying customer to keep practical access to your own family collection.
- 02
Printing something worth hanging is harder than it should be.
Ordering a well-designed family tree print online is convoluted. Some companies will design one for you at a price. Many apps hand you a cartoonish template. Most simply print the node diagram you were already looking at on screen—not something anyone wants to frame or give as a gift.
OpenTree Press keeps the building, the design, and the printing in one place, so the artifact at the end is the point rather than an afterthought.
- 03
Old scans deserve better than a pixelated print.
If you are at all like us, you have collected low-resolution scans from relatives with no practical way to make them print-ready. We use AI photo restoration to solve that for most cases—repairing and upscaling photographs so they hold up at full print size instead of dissolving into a blur at 36 by 24 inches.
- 04
A family history is a geography, not just a list of names.
Where was this person in 1880? What is that place like now? When did they move, and what did that journey actually look like? Most ancestry apps leave those questions on the table.
OpenTree Press includes map integration, migration visualizations, and high-quality map prints you can order—so the movement of a family is something you can follow and hang on a wall.
